Tell it to the nations

“Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.”
Psalm 96:3

The psalm doesn’t ask us to argue people into the kingdom; it asks us to tell. Declare what God is like and what He has done, as simply as a witness at a trial.

God’s glory was never meant to stay inside one nation or one church. The same good news you carry today is meant for every people, and sharing it begins with a single conversation.

A simple prayer

Lord, let me speak of Your goodness today. Give me words, courage and a person to tell, and bless every nation with Your glory. Amen.

Hebrew word of the day

סַפְּרוּ (sapperu (sah-peh-ROO)). “Declare” or “recount.” The root also means to count and to tell a story. We are asked to count God’s deeds out loud so that others can hear them.

Historical significance

This psalm also appears in 1 Chronicles 16, where David has it sung when the ark of the covenant is brought to Jerusalem. It is a song of worship that looks beyond Israel to all nations.

On this day in mission history: 1893

John Livingstone Nevius, an American missionary to China, died. His principle that new churches should be self-propagating, self-supporting and self-governing later shaped the church in Korea, which grew rapidly.
